Dear friends in Christ, Easter probably seems as though it has come and gone, but your celebration of Easter is part of your life every day—Jesus’ resurrection is the amazing seed from which your hope is growing, your love is creating, and your faith is uniting forever with God. On April 12, so many came together to worship that our singing was vibrant and rich. I thank God for each one of you! We live in a world troubled by economic and health challenges. As the Swine Flu continues to spread throughout the world, we are still waiting to see how serious the disease is. A fearful world begins to experience more its need for God’s love. The church will need to rise up with God’s strength to show compassion and leadership. Let’s pray for all congregations throughout the world to be communities of assurance and strong compassion. The progress toward creating a new senior housing center is getting more and more exciting. We are making application with the City of Las Vegas so that our approved zoning will allow us to begin the final planning stages; we have been targeting the May 1st deadline for application, and we made it! Perhaps you have already seen the drawings in the entryway—they make it easier to imagine walking through the halls, seeing children coming for daycare and preschool, visiting in the homes of the residents, hearing the piano in the lobby, walking through the book and gift store. I picture an atrium, an expanded narthex to our church, with places to sip coffee from the café. From there you can look out onto the play yard with children racing tricycles along a racetrack walkway. There is a tremendous and growing need for this housing & caring ministry to seniors, and perhaps you will find a way to serve Christ by serving the needs of these future residents. Perhaps some of our own congregation members will find it useful and desirable to move into one of the 104 units being proposed. We will be instrumental in making these living spaces into homes.
