Dear friends,

Camp Galilee is soon here: two weeks of summer day camp for Kindergarten through 5th graders (those who have just completed those grades). Many youth and adults are serving as helpers, guides, and leaders. We have 19 campers signed up for the first week but only 12 so far for the second—20 is the target, but we can take as many as 30 each week. You can read all about it on the web www.thelakeslutheran.org. Please fill out your registration forms as soon as you can, to help us in our planning. We thank Pastor Carolyn for all the creative work she is doing with our leaders.

Our council has volunteered to undergird the work of the Stewardship Committee, and together we are reading an excellent book: Ask, Thank, Tell. In the introduction, Charles R. Lane writes, “STEWARDSHIP HAS BEEN KIDNAPPED AND IS BEING HELD hostage by a sinister villain named ‘Paying the Bills.’” This intriguing opening line leads us into a dramatic rescue of stewardship from a distortion of meaning. What happens is a beautiful unfolding of the rich biblical meaning. This is a fantastic resource for all disciples and for those seeking greater strength in their relationship with God. (Can you tell I’m excited about this book?)

Our adult studies leaders are reading another resource book: Opening the Book of Faith: Lutheran Insights for Bible Study. This will prepare us to lead our congregation into becoming a Book of Faith congregation (read about it at www.elca.org/bookoffaith).
